Moderators- My anti-virus programs keep alerting its picking up viruses on this site, some on certain postings and some just in general logging in and going to the main page of listings. Anyone else getting these threat warnings. |

LOL. I wouldn't have a friggin' clue, but maybe it is a false positive, from a certain anti-virus program some are using. I've just updated AVG, but it shows nothing more than the usual tracking cookies... |

finally- This morning it happened when I logged in. A couple of days ago it was the thread on websites from India, a few times it happens after someone posts, maybe they are bringing a virus from their email without knowing it. I'm not computer savvy at all, is there a way the site can be protected better or do we just have to make sure our own computers are protected. |

Lol Newbs. There's something in your cache that must be triggering your Anti-Virus. Clear all of your temporary internet files, cookies, blah blah blah. |

Most likely one of the ads that is triggering this. Install an ad-blocker or something. It could also be an existing virus on your system that replaces certain content on websites (such as ads) with worse virusses. |

My Norton system has said that it blocked many trojan viruses. Worry about the ones that Norton may not be able to intercept. I have not seen such warnings in the past. |

My anti-virus programs keep alerting its picking up viruses on this site, some on certain postings and some just in general logging in and going to the main page of listings. --Not a moderator here, just an I.T. guy. It is not this site that is infected. It is one or two of the third party sites serving up the banner advertising. The banner advertising varies from person to person to person, because in addition to the content of the thread, it's also dependent on what other sites you've recently visited and what things you've recently searched for. So usually you can't simply say, "This particular thread triggered a virus warning. Please check it out" Some people might get a virus warning on that thread. --Many others won't |

I got a couple from Avast. Problem is, I suspect that an advertisement that is infected is what triggered it. They put a worm into where an ad is supposed to go, and when you visit the page, you get the worm. Problem is, it is difficult to trace which ad has the worm--because it only happened twice, and I never checked all the ads running when I get the warning. Hopefully the scumbag that put the worm on these ads to infect this forum (and probably many other innocent sites) ends up getting a nice long jail term. Another problem I had is when the "diamond cleaner" ad came on, particularly the one on the right side of the first post, my cursor would blank out. It would flash on and off, mostly off, making finding it difficult and clicking onto something else (like the refresh button) more difficult. No worm threat, just having a cursor that I cannot properly track. |

Firefox users can install a free addon called AdBlock Plus. It will solve infected ad problems before they even get started.. I use it and have never had a virus alert on this board.. or any other, for that matter.. Oh yeah.. it works on Google Chrome and K-Meleon, too.

I have had two in the last week. Weird. I hope this can be fixed by the mods because my Trend Micro protection is a pain in the butt! |

The mods have nothing to do with the advertising on this site. As I understand it, Google Ads tailors the advertising according to the thread title and YOUR recent jaunts along the www. You can minimize the kinds of ads that pop up in IE by clicking Tools -- Internet Options -- Delete Browsing History on Exit -- Apply. Oh, and visit JWN first before visiting other sites. Naturally. |

Thats weird, I get ad banners about becoming a christian minister and others like it. I am a pagan and have not been to any websites like that other than this one and this one rarely. Luckily I have had no problem with viruses but just wanted to comment about the tailored ad banners. Ada |

Yeah, my Norton also signals that it's blocking viral attacks. It happens rather frequently when I'm on this site... I've chosen to view it as "karma" - telling me that I need to spend less time on this site and more time working on my stuff... |
